The Artist Reviewed by Ian Stout

I give it a 4.5 (Can I do that? oh wait... I just did!)

The Artist is a silent film, a love story, a history lesson and a fresh take on some of the oldest ideas and ideals of the film making industry. What a great snapshot of the world of entertainment with elements that are just as relevant now as they were in 1930. With themes such as "making way for the young" and "reinventing ones self and ones industry." The Artist covers it all. A delightful comedy with just enough passion and witticism to keep the audience engaged in a black and white 4x3, silent (well almost completely silent) film. The times that the filmmakers break the fourth wall using sound FX and a few lines of dialog were well motivated and a joy to witness. All in all this film is a breath of fresh air in the overly flashy industry of filmmaking. Bravo.
